Norfolk County VINELink Coverage
VINE, accessed online through VINELink, is a custody-information and notification platform. Massachusetts directs the public to it from the MADOC housed-person page. That official page says only the Massachusetts Department of Correction participates in the Massachusetts VINE program. In Norfolk County, the service can therefore cover people reported in MADOC custody at MCI-Norfolk, Pondville Correctional Center, or another state facility.
It does not provide current Norfolk County Correctional Center or South Bay House of Correction coverage under that participation statement. Nor does it cover the Federal Bureau of Prisons or ICE. A Norfolk County jail release must be checked through Sheriff Patrick W. McDermott's Norfolk County Sheriff's Office release record and the court docket. Search a Norfolk County State Inmate
Search one person at a time. Exact identifiers reduce false matches. An account is not required for an anonymous basic search, though the interface may require an account to save notification settings. The current feed can change, so note the date and exact words shown.
- Open VINELink and select Massachusetts.
- Choose the offender-search option for the participating state system.
- Enter the full first and last name or the MADOC commitment number.
- Compare the identity, offender number, status, institution, and location before choosing a match.
- Open the matching record and record the exact status plus the date viewed.
- If the result says released or out of custody, treat it as a lead and obtain MADOC's final release record.
- If nothing matches, state only that the person was not found in the participating MADOC search.
Do not assume a photo or projected-release field will appear. Massachusetts' present official instructions do not promise either field for every record. An older state VINE document described a projected date in a county implementation, but that material predates the current MADOC-only participation statement.

Norfolk County VINELink Release Fields
The returned fields depend on what MADOC provides in the current participating feed. Review each label literally. A status such as released or out of custody may be useful, but the official instructions do not promise how long such a profile remains searchable or that a historical release date and reason will always appear. A missing record says only that the search did not return a match.

For historical proof, ask MADOC for the Certificate of Discharge/Release, release order or log, release institution, date, type, and destination category. Add the parole decision or sentencing docket when it helps explain the result. The formal agency record, not the alert screen, establishes the final event.
Note: Norfolk County VINELink status can change, so preserve the exact wording and retrieval date before seeking the agency record.
Register Norfolk County Release Alerts
After finding the correct MADOC person, register for a status-change notification. Available channels may include telephone, SMS or text, email, in-app messages, and TTY. Official VINE materials recommend more than one contact method when practical. Alerts may arrive at any hour.
- Open the correct person record and select its notification or registration control.
- Create or sign in to an account if the current interface requires one.
- Select one or more available contact channels.
- Enter each telephone number, email address, or device destination with care.
- For telephone alerts, create a four-digit PIN that will acknowledge the automated call.
- Confirm registration and keep the confirmation for later review.
- When a call arrives, listen to the status message, enter the PIN to stop repeat attempts, and then verify the change with MADOC or the named receiving agency.
If an automated call is not acknowledged, VINE may leave a message and keep attempting contact for at least 24 hours or until the PIN is entered. VINE support is available at 866-277-7477. TTY assistance is 866-847-1298, and official service information describes multilingual help.
Norfolk County VINE Is MADOC-Only
This local limit changes the search path. MCI-Norfolk and Pondville are MADOC facilities, so Massachusetts VINELink can report their participating custody changes. The Norfolk County Correctional Center is operated by NCSO, while South Bay is operated by Suffolk County. Neither county system becomes part of Massachusetts VINE merely because it holds a Norfolk County case.
For NCCC, use the Sheriff's public-records channel to request the written release transaction and check the originating MassCourts docket. Ask the release date and time, type, legal authority, and destination. For a Norfolk-committed woman at South Bay, begin with the Suffolk custody record and use the Norfolk court for the case disposition. If the release field shows transfer to MADOC, then the VINELink route begins as a new state-custody check. That transfer is not proof of community release.
A blank VINELink result should never be converted into a conclusion. The person may be in a nonparticipating county system, another state, federal custody, immigration custody, or no longer retained in the public search. The written record identifies the real event.
Norfolk County Victim Release Notice
Massachusetts VINE is separate from the state DCJIS Victim Notification Registry. Eligible victims, witnesses, and qualifying representatives can register with DCJIS for notices that may include temporary, provisional, or final release. Registration is confidential and requires supporting material such as a police report, District Attorney summons, or victim-witness advocate letter. It is not an unrestricted public search.
The Norfolk County Sheriff's Office also has a Victim Services Unit at 781-751-3390. Its official service includes important inmate information and release-from-custody notification for eligible people. That local channel does not create a public recent-release feed, and it should not be confused with MADOC's VINELink participation.
DCJIS assistance is available at 617-660-4600, with TTY at 617-660-4606, from 200 Arlington Street, Suite 2200, Chelsea, Massachusetts. Choose the system that fits the custody source and eligibility. A person can use VINELink anonymously for a basic MADOC check while formal registry access follows its own rules.
Norfolk County Registry Is Separate
The Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board is another distinct source. It applies only to people subject to registration and is not a general release locator. Public internet access covers Level 3 offenders and Level 2 offenders classified after July 12, 2013. Level 1 information is not public, while some older Level 2 information may require the police or SORB request process.
A named inquiry can use first name, last name, and date of birth. Public results may include the qualifying offense, conviction or adjudication date, physical description, authorized address information, a photo if available, and registration status. Read status words literally. Registered, incarcerated, moved out of state, deported, and in violation are different facts. A registry match may document post-custody registration, but it does not establish the exact jail or prison release date.
Use this channel only when the person is within the registry's scope. For the custody event, return to NCSO, Suffolk, MADOC, or the correct federal authority.
Confirm Norfolk County VINELink Releases
VINE warns that its data may not be complete or timely and should not stand alone. A notification is a prompt to verify. It can report a transfer or other custody change that is not a return to the community. It may also arrive after staff enter the event. No official current Massachusetts retention interval for released-person results was found.
After an alert, request the MADOC release or discharge transaction. Compare the name, commitment number, release institution, date, release type, and destination. If parole appears, check the Massachusetts Parole Board decision and remember that a grant may precede the actual exit. If a court sentence or order controls the event, check the docket. For federal custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator. A result saying released or not in BOP custody means the person is no longer held by BOP, but another authority or supervision may remain. ICE uses its own locator. U.S. Marshals custody may require agency assistance. None of those records flows into Massachusetts VINELink.
The same rule applies after a transfer notice. First read the named destination. A move from MCI-Norfolk to another MADOC prison remains within state custody, while a handoff to a county, federal, or immigration authority starts a different record trail. Request the MADOC transaction and then verify the receiving agency's record. Only a community-release entry, supported by the final agency record, answers whether the person actually left confinement.
