Pondville Pre-Release Status Explained

Pondville Correctional Center is an active MADOC minimum-security and pre-release facility. “Pre-release” describes its correctional role and security setting. It is not a person-level status, a release order, or proof that someone has entered the community. A person remains in MADOC custody until the agency records a lawful release or another authority takes custody.

This point matters because a transfer into Pondville can look like progress toward release while still being a state-prison movement. A later departure can be parole, expiration or discharge, court release, transfer within MADOC, or transfer to another jurisdiction. Confirm the specific event through the release type, date, release institution, and destination category in MADOC’s record.

Verify a Pondville Release

The verification path starts with the current MADOC locator and ends with the historical transaction. Massachusetts does not publish a permanent person-level archive for every former state prisoner. VINELink is useful for current participating-agency status, but a missing result cannot supply the date, type, or destination of a Pondville departure.

1. Open MADOC’s official housed-person page and follow its Massachusetts VINELink route.
2. Search with the full first and last name or MADOC commitment number.
3. Compare the returned identity, institution, and status. Record the exact wording and date viewed.
4. If the result is missing or says out of custody, request the Pondville release or discharge transaction from MADOC.
5. Compare the release institution, date, type, and destination with the sentencing docket.
6. If parole appears, check the Parole Board decision and the proper regional supervision route.

The official MADOC lookup instructions state that only the Massachusetts Department of Correction participates in the state VINE program. That makes the service relevant to Pondville and MCI-Norfolk, not to every county jail or federal facility.

ERD is the earliest date a person may be eligible for release, including parole eligibility and deductions that may be earned. ERD Max is tied to the maximum date of the controlling sentence, includes qualifying deductions, and excludes parole eligibility. The public VINELink instructions do not promise that either field appears on a person result.

Massachusetts has no general statute requiring every prisoner to serve exactly 85 percent. G.L. c. 127, section 129D governs individualized earned deductions, while section 130B addresses a release-to-supervision date for qualifying state prisoners under its terms. Credits must actually be earned, and statutory limits and exclusions apply.

Later events can alter a calculation. These include loss or restoration of credit, a new sentence, appellate or trial-court orders, detainers, parole action, and administrative recalculation. Request the sheet that shows the controlling sentence, jail credit, awards, ERD, ERD Max, and maximum date. The actual Pondville release date comes from the final transaction, not from an estimate based on the facility’s name.

Pondville Parole Record Checks

A Parole Board decision can explain why a sentenced person became eligible to leave Pondville under supervision. Published materials may show a result such as granted, denied, deferred, or rescinded. A grant does not establish the day of physical departure. Conditions, plan approval, a detainer, later action, or processing may intervene.

Closed Norfolk Prison Records

Pondville and MCI-Norfolk are the two active MADOC institutions in Norfolk County. Older records and search results may name MCI-Cedar Junction or Bay State Correctional Center. MCI-Cedar Junction ended its prisoner operations in June 2023, and Bay State stopped holding prisoners years before that. An old institution name should not be treated as a current Pondville record.

Historical Cedar Junction or Bay State releases remain MADOC Central Records matters. Give the old facility name, commitment number, and approximate dates when asking for the release transaction.
