No Norfolk 24 Hour Feed
Sheriff Patrick W. McDermott’s Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office does not publish a named roster of people released today. Its official site has no rolling 24-hour release page, person-level booking view, release-photo list, stated refresh schedule, or online retention period. There is no official feed URL to open. Commercial lists from other sources should not be treated as the Sheriff’s record.
This absence changes the first step. For a live operational question, call the Norfolk County Correctional Center at 781-329-3705 and ask whether staff can confirm that the named person remains in NCSO custody or route the call to the right unit. Phone information may be limited and can change. For proof that lasts, request the admission and release transaction in writing and compare it with the court’s order or disposition.
The official records route is also more useful than a guessed daily list because it can preserve the legal distinction between release and transfer. Under Massachusetts Public Records Law, a custodian may redact exempt content but should identify the basis and provide reasonably segregable public parts. A narrow request can ask for one custody event without seeking unrelated medical, victim, safety, or investigatory material. The response may state that an item is not maintained, that another office owns it, or that a lawful restriction applies. Each outcome gives a clearer next step than an empty unofficial search.
Check Norfolk Same-Day Releases
A Norfolk County 24 hour release check is a short chain of official contacts, not a scan of a public feed. Begin with the jail because it owns the custody transaction. Then use the court to learn why the legal status changed. If another agency received the person, continue with that system rather than calling the transfer a release home.
- Call NCCC at 781-329-3705 for a current custody, release, or transfer question. Record the time of the call and the unit that handled it.
- Find the correct court docket. Read the disposition, bail or recognizance order, sentence, probation entry, and any later warrant or modification.
- Email records_request@norfolksheriffma.org. Give the full name, known jail identifier, approximate booking and release dates, and docket number.
- Ask for the release date and time, exact release type, releasing authority, and destination or receiving agency when the event was a transfer.
- Follow the receiving system. Use MADOC for a state transfer, BOP or federal court sources for a federal handoff, and ICE channels for an immigration transfer.

Norfolk 24 Hour Record Fields

The official Massachusetts release-type definitions include transfer, release to another criminal justice agency, and “remain incarcerated.” Those labels warn against reading every administrative exit as freedom. Norfolk Bail Release Timing
Bail has its own local timing and cannot be inferred from a 24-hour list. The NCSO bail page says bail is normally handled during evening hours on weekdays and from noon into the evening on weekends and holidays, subject to Bail Commissioner availability. The person posting bail should call first to check warrants or detainers, the required amount, the fee, and whether the person is bailable. NCSO advises allowing about two hours for processing.
An older Sheriff FAQ gives slightly different hours and a stated commissioner fee. That conflict is a reason to call before travel, not a reason to select the more convenient page. A court’s bail order also does not prove the physical exit occurred. Another warrant, a detainer, paperwork, or transport can change what happens next.

Note: The visitor brochure’s weekday discharge rule is operational guidance, not a named Norfolk County release list or a promised exit time.
Route Norfolk Release Checks Correctly
Physical location and record ownership can split in Norfolk County. Men are generally held at the Dedham jail, while women committed from Norfolk County may be housed at South Bay House of Correction in Suffolk County. A Norfolk court case does not prove NCSO had the final custody record. If South Bay held the person, verify the exit with Suffolk custody records and the Norfolk charging or sentencing court.
State facilities need a different route. MCI-Norfolk and Pondville are MADOC prisons located in Norfolk County, not county jail units. Massachusetts VINELink can help with current MADOC custody, but a historical release requires MADOC records, the sentencing docket, and Massachusetts Parole Board information when applicable. No active federal prison or dedicated ICE detention center was identified in the county. A federal or immigration handoff still requires the federal system’s own record.

Norfolk Quarterly Release Data
Norfolk County does file a deidentified quarterly Admissions and Releases report under Chapter 126, section 40. It is not an official 24-hour release list. The filing includes PCF, SID, OBTN, race, ethnicity, booking date, admit type, release date, earned time, sentence length, and jail credit. It omits the person’s name, photograph, and release reason.
That report can later corroborate a release date if a valid matching identifier is already known. Its quarterly cadence makes it too late and too limited to answer who left today. It also cannot show whether the event was a true community exit or a transfer. Use it as a later data check, never as a live roster.
Note: A deidentified quarterly row supports a date only when its identifier can be lawfully matched to the correct source record.
Norfolk Sheriff App Limits
The official “Norfolk County Sheriff MA” mobile app is real, but its public store listing does not advertise an inmate lookup, recent-release module, or mugshot gallery. The app promotes agency services, safety news, community material, and reentry resources. It may help a user reach contacts or follow agency updates. It should not be described as a hidden 24-hour jail release feed.
App features can change, so read the current listing before relying on a tool. Even if a future feature displays custody information, a time-sensitive app result should still be checked with the office that owns the release record. The written release transaction remains the durable Norfolk County source.
Norfolk Released Versus In Custody
A person still held by NCSO has not completed a community release. A person absent from a custody check may have left NCSO, but that absence does not identify the outcome. The release field may show bail, recognizance, probation, parole, expiration, court release, transfer, or another status. Only the transaction and the next record owner resolve that difference.
